TransAmerica Update – Wear a Helmet

on
May 26, 2010

I shot and made this yesterday and have hesitated to hit publish. Not because I look a wreck – believe it or not, I actually look worse today since they took the stitches out. More because of how I sound.

I had a lot to say about why I think LIVESTRONG is amazing. And I said it pretty well in the first take. Unfortunately, I started weeping in the middle and that take is pretty much unwatchable. The edit here captures enough I think, but I’m still not particularly eloquent with it. And I got sleepy while editing, so it is what it is.

To summarize even less eloquently…

We are given opportunities in life to display humanity and kinship towards each other. To show a side of ourselves that’s all about looking out for another human being.

Because we’re all in this together.

In other words, don’t be a douche all your life. šŸ™‚

We laughed, we cried a little watching this. We hope you & Precious press on.

Listening to Colin Hay’s title track to American Sunshine, and wishing you a speedy recovery.

When I lost my ability to ever say I’d give my left nut to do something because cancer took it instead, the first place I went was Livestrong. I remember my first day sitting at home just sitting on the couch on pain killers poring through the postings on the site. Just knowing there were a zillion other people who had been through a lot worse than I had to go through gave me a whole different perspective. For me it was just a group of people who understand. And ever since my testacular (new word, you can use it) experience, my dad wears the yellow bracelet. Never said anything about it. Not once. Just put it on. And every time I see it, I think about my simple experience, and I’m glad, in that little way, Livestrong was there. Please do give, folks. And Janeen, please get better. You’re living a hell of a good story.

Unbelievable! Noodle I am soooo sorry to hear what has happened. You look much better here though than in the original photos though. My god! That was horrific. I’m glad you’re alright.

On a lighter note can you make those next 10kms without crashing cause they’re mine! All mine!

I have an idea, I propose you get your existing helmet and attach it to the back of your head and buy another helmet for the front with a couple of holes cut out of it!

I’m sorry if I’m being cheeky but i can’t help it knowing you’re ok now. Great stuff. Proud of you…
