CONTACT/ABOUT ME

Afternoon, Lake Keepit, NSW Australia
I write and I bike. Part of me wants to say that “I ride bikes” and not that “I bike.” That part would be the writer part. The bike part is winning. Although I continue to write for a living, my time outside of that endeavor is increasingly filled with plans for more miles, tougher hills, and gear. Always more gear.
At this point, I would like to apologise to my novel. I do think about you. But mostly when I’m out on my bike.
I have no doubt that these two pursuits influence each other in a positive way, and I hope one day they will perhaps smelt themselves into some kind of ride-able tome of awesomeness.
One day.
I’m an Australian living in the wilds of Brooklyn, New York. This city has embraced me for just over 7 years. It’s been a nice embrace. Snug. Full body cuddle. We like each other. The drivers, maybe not so much. Since October 2008, I’ve been exploring in and out of the city by bike. Finding new routes, meeting new two-wheeled friends, and generally finding out that no one can see you on a bike. Even if you’ve made eye contact, you probably haven’t registered in their brain. I look forward to expanding my exploratory perimeter.
If you’d like to contact me, you can do so either via Twitter or email. I will do my best to reply in a timely manner.

i’ve enjoyed reading your blog.
Similar to our friend David of Sufferfest, we are doing some first person video stuff but more in the mountain bike, adventure racing categories.
I would be real interested in your review of our stuff. Let me know if you’re interested and we will get you set up.

Just came across your blog from a twitter list and wanted to let you know it’s gorgeous! Awesome design. Good luck with your trip. I’m heading out on a 6 month motorcycle trip to Alaska and back down next week. Will keep up your posts as I can.
Nice meeting you today after the G.W. Bridge. There’s no contact e-mail for you.
I started a New York Cycle Club Message Board forum on your topic:

And I’ve sent your web site info. to two friends who cycled across country recently – Michael and Maggie.
Have a great trip!

I’m not a tweeter person (working on it though…tag heiferbison). You had a tweet today about ‘NOT Taking cooking gear. Consider taking the stove, a small bottle of fuel, a spoon and a meter cup. Seek comfort on a cold wet ride…Knorr’s chicken soup or such (tea).
You will be meeting people while camping, to ask for a small amt of fuel is not a big deal.
I’ve truly enjoyed following your blog since I watched your 100 miles to nowhere last year. Your accident was most unfortunate, but I sense that you will be back on the road soon and can’t wait to hear more reports of your travels. Ride on!
Slainte!
ride on
Are you still in the Richmond, VA area? This is my neck of the woods, be happy to help you out if I can.
I love your story, I found it by reading Fatty’s blog today and shot over during the lunch hour. I’ll have to go home tonight and catch up on the story; I feel like I’m getting interested in Lost on the last episode. I see references to “TransAmerica” a couple times. Is that a reference to just your ride or to some mapping and planning guide. I hope you get better soon and resume your trek.
Warm Regards,
Bill – Fort Worth, Texas
Beautiful website- love your posts, great photos, and superb videos. So sorry to hear about your crash! Wish you the best and a speedy recovery.
Hi, Noodle. I got your link from Fatty. I hope you are feeling better. I will keep you in my thoughts as I trail ride today. GOOD LUCK.
Boy when you Aussies crash you do it right. No half measures with that one. Hope you are doing OK with the turmoil. But chin up – you will be back riding in no time and can put the smack down on the crash demons in your past.
Love reading your posts and vids. Good luck mending fast!
Hi Noodle
Sorry to hear you are injured… reading your blog via Fatty. Love to hear the Aussie/American accent… I’m from N.Z. and have followed Fatty for a while now… Go kick some arse (when your wrist is no longer kicked LOL)
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oy, oy, oy!!!!!
Hey Janeen,
Fellow Aussie here! Wishing you all the best and I’ve helped a little by posting an article on Digital Buzz – http://www.digitalbuzzblog.com/precious-the-bike-with-a-brain-for-livestrong/
Love it.

Hey Janeen,
I just sent you a note on twitter. I rode across in ‘06. We followed a similar route to Colorado into Utah, but then headed south and eventually made our way to San Diego.
When you get to Kansas look for a town called Cassoday. Once there, check out Cassoday Cafe. It’s an all you can eat buffet. GREAT food and people. Ask for the peanut butter pie. I’ll check my journal when I get home for other reco’s.
It’s not an easy trip. And the idea of giving up will creep into your thoughts. Often. Just take it one day at a time.
Keep pushing and pulling those pedals!!!!

So awesome, Janeen! Really cool initiative — far better than copywriting
I’ll be following & donating.
Enjoy!

Found yesiamprecious.com and your blog yesterday. Love them both. Look forward to reading your post.
It looks like your route is on the Katy Trail in Missouri. I talked to my wife, if you would like a warm shower and a soft bed when you are near Columbia, MO. Let me know.
Keep the faith and keep rolling.
Found you today…thanks for all you are doing. I lost my son Todd last month, his wife a husband, his children a father. Cancer sucks. Livestrong was there for us and through you I am here for Livestrong.
Hey, found yesiamprecious.com the other day, and have read all of your posts. When’s the next update? We’re anxiously awaiting the next chronicle of your adventure!
Ride hard, stay strong!
Hey Janeen- Just saw you pulled into Summersville, MO. My old home town. Graduated from SHS in 1987. Small town but great people. Enjoy your incredible adventure- my husband and I follow you everday. Its an incredible thing your doing – I lost my Grandpa this last February – he was a wonderful man – Great sense of humor just like your writing. LIVSTRONG!!
This is the BEST blog design I’ve seen. I am amazed that Janeen has the energy to WRITE after the long days she’s putting in. And she writes very well. What a gal!!
I would love to know more about the “team” (God, I hope there’s one!) that’s supporting her. Is it all virtual?
Also, it would be nice to have more detail on the map on the yesiamprecious.com page.
Hey Janeen, a fellow Fatty here. I am jealous of you! I SO want to bike across America. I live in the Denver Metro area of Colorado. If you need a place to sleep, shower, and eat call me! I’ll drive to where ever and bring to my house. 303.467.1783. Hope you don’t mind cats.Linda
